everything backlit and hazy
sublime #40
Summer is summering and my feet are buzzing from a delicious Saturday spent in an East Sussex garden full of strangers. The strangers all knew each other and I took pictures of them making life affirmations and singing and grazing on houmus-dipped vegetables and squealing at the novelty of shaving their own wheels of fancy Italian cheeses. There was a glowing light that danced through the trees and made everything backlit and hazy, reminding me of The Virgin Suicides, with a slightly bolder colour palette.
I watched a small child devour cherries like nothing else mattered, eyes glazed and fingers stained a deep pink, a pile of stones and stalks to the side of her. I saw countless moments of warmth; hands stretched across tablecloths or entwined discreetly under it, heads resting on shoulders and eyes-closed hugs - the kind that stop time and melts the world around you, the chatter of 120 others fading into the background.
In the weeks before I have, like most of the summer, spent time in magical places, garden spaces, making friends with delicate flowers and learning the language of light through grasses. There have been many shaded walks to stretch the legs and welsh cakes to feed my love of sugar and butter.
Before the hot weather we took a trip to the Netherlands to wander unfamiliar streets and admire things in museums:

We stayed in Haarlem and took the train to Amsterdam, Leiden and a little way up the coast to try our hand at navigating the dunes of the Zuid-Kennemerland national park:
I delivered the final images from a not-very-wedding-wedding where the main feature was a madeleine cake and bizarre flavoured macarons served on tiny perspex pedestals. My (wonderful, visionary) couple hired out the 8 Holland Street townhouse in Bath and served tea and cake without any of the formalities of a traditional wedding. They wore blue and green looked absolutely incredible.
Work very conveniently took us to Cornwall…

A few images from a shoot in the vast abyss that is the Chatsworth garden. I have so many images from my time there so in the name of all that is me I have chosen the ones that shouted at me the loudest. Blazing oranges and martagon lilies and the ghost of a flower that seemed to me to create a painting on the surface of a slow-flowing stream. Towering Gunnera leaves, handsome rocks and frogs so small we almost missed them.

In Round 3 of the fierce heat we found ourselves in the cooling breeze of the Pembrokeshire coast, shooting/sheltering/drinking in the beauty that is TÅ· Clai. More to come from this expedition soon, here are the snaps from my camera roll:

In the last light of yesterday evening, watching my shadow stretch towards the horizon.
