And show off it did!! What a stunning collection of photos, India. The last one looks like an eye, just waking.

Can I call it a ‘conflict’? The freedom of a no-camera stroll within a photographer’s mind and habits?

I was thinking about that Toni Morrison quote, the other day…

“At some point in life the world’s beauty becomes enough. You don’t need to photograph, paint, or even remember it. It is enough.”

You know what spurred me on and made me think that I should be taking the camera with me? Sally Mann! I’m only at the start (ish) but she said

“I was just taking pictures to see what they looked like. Just for the fun of it. It wasn't about anything in some cases. Some of them were just about the joy of opening up an aperture and seeing what shows up.”

And it made me think that I have to be the one that shows up first… “

I love the Toni Morrison quote because it’s absolutely true, I guess that I’ve managed to commercialise that part of me in some ways which brings some odd feelings. Someone told me once that I had a duty to share the way that I see the world and that I should absolutely share the pictures I take because it’s an injustice not to which is a very encouraging and supportive thing to say. But taking/making pictures and showing those pictures are two different things!

Oooooh you're reading Hold Still? Oooooh, I can't wait to hear what you think. I gained a lot from that book but most importantly for me, I discovered Cy Twombly in those pages and that has changed my brain in a way that I was not expecting.

I am just so grateful that you share your photos with us. They are food for the soul and I for one, relish them! I feel some way about what you said about the taking/making of pictures and showing them...I struggling to show my art. On going battle.

Yes! It’s easy to tell someone else they should share their work but when it comes to actually doing it myself… :-D

I am guilty of that too! Haha

Gorgeous, of course. And totally relate to that “freedom of leaving the camera behind” feeling (but then, the agony when you spot something and wish you had it 🫠)

Absolutely. I feel it especially when I get booked for something that requires me to delve into my archive for supplement images of seasonality etc. which actually happens a lot so I should probably always take my camera. Quite aware of how boring it must be to be with me when I stop a lot and get hyper focused on stuff I try to capture but can’t!

Apricity! Another one that I can add to the list of words that I am glad exist, but will probably never say out loud except to say "Did you know there's a word for..." (Komorebi is another good one of these.)

I do love to find words that do visual delights justice - mainly because it’s so rare to find a way of describing things that are so indescribable!
